An explanation for Uncharted Waters' recent absence

Hello all, it's Peter (a.k.a. HarvestmanMan) again. This blog has been dead as a doornail over the past few months and I apologize for that.

Remember when I touted the new way of recording things that was supposedly skip-free? It wasn't after all. I began recording tracks for UW Volume 20 a few months ago, but upon finding that nearly all of them had skips of some sort in them, I deleted everything that I had planned for that volume. The problem lies within my computer itself, and replacing it is not economically feasible for me right now.

But...I do have access to another computer that really does have skip-free recording. I've recorded about three dozen tracks for upcoming volumes of Uncharted Waters.

So yes, the series is returning VERY soon. Keep your eyes and ears out. And once again, I apologize for the absence. I would rather wait a while for better recordings that provide all of you with sub-par files.

Thanks for sticking with me.

Uncharted Waters Volume 19

University is back in session - which means less time to hunt for records but more time to catch up on the ones I haven't listened to yet. This particular batch of wax is mostly from the late '60s, so it is pretty good stuff. One of these guys is even parlez-vousing himself some Francais. A Rick Derringer cover, a Tokens tune, and yet another Heywoods release (the last one before they went mainstream and got an actual producer) - this one has quite a variety.  I have included a bonus track to compensate for the time in between posts and the Mediafire troubles...

1. Art-Forms Ltd. - Apple Trees And Butterflies (RCA Victor 74-0354, 1970)
2. The Foundations - Born To Live, Born To Die (Uni 55162, 1969)
3. The Tokens - How Nice? (Warner Bros. 7056, 1967)
4. The Plastic People - It's Not Right (Kapp K-789, 1966)
5. The Heywoods - My Days Are Numbered (Queen-B QF-509, 1968)
6. Christopher Robin - Nature Takin' Its Course (Liberty 56017, 1968)
7. Art Munson - Nothing Gets My Soul (Like Rock 'n' Roll) (Lion 129, 1972)
8. Johnny Hallyday -  Psychedelic (Philips 437.380 BE, 1967)
9. Anaconda - Rock And Roll, Hoochie Koo (Big Tree BT-139, 1972)
10. The Lownly Crowde - Shadows and Reflections (MGM K13740, 1967)
11. The Visions - Threshold of Love (Uni 55031, 1967)
12. Mike Brewer and Tom Shipley - Time and Changes (A&M 996, 1968)
13. The Elastik Band - Tunesmith (Kapp K-968, 1968)
14. Central Park - Who Wouldn't Love To Be Loved (Amy A 11,019, 1968)
15. Rainbow - Your Love Keeps Coming On (Evolution 1056, 1972)
BONUS TRACK: Los Bravos - Things Go Better With Coke (Swingers for Coke ZTEP123782-1, 1966)

Uncharted Waters Volume 18

Hello to all! Hope your summer is going well so far.  I have finally tracked down my audio demons that were causing all sorts of skips and glitches in my songs - and I think I have narrowed the problem down.  After trying another preamp - this one USB-based, not line-in - and using a new program called Leapic Audio Editor instead of Audacity, the skips seem to have vanished for good! Nevertheless, please do not hesitate to let me know if anything is amiss with these.

Lots of psychedelia in this one, not just pop-rock. Digging has been VERY fruitful for me lately.

1. The Flying Machine - Baby Make It Soon (Congress C-6012, 1970)
2. Artistry In Sound - Bridge Over Troubled Water (Uni 55236, 1970)
3. Hamilton Streetcar - Brother Speed (from album "Hamilton Streetcar, Dot DLP 25939, 1969)
4. The Human Touch - Compromise (Warner Bros. 7375, 1970)
5. Sidewalk Skipper Band - Cynthia At The Garden (Capitol 2127, 1968)
6. Hamilton Walker - Graveyard Shift (Uni 55010, 1967)
7. The Appletree Theatre - Hightower Square (Verve Forecast KF5071, 1967)
8. The Serendipity Singers featuring Nick Holmes - Illusions (United Artists 50,457, 1968)
9. The Epic Splendor - It Could Be Wonderful (Hot Biscuit Disc Co. 1452, 1968)
10. Colours - Love Heals (Dot 45-17132, 1968)
11. Aquarian Age - Old Man Don't Cry (Mercury 72915, 1969)
12. River Deep - Take A Ride (Bell B-791, 1969)
13. Errol Sober - The Sun Ain't Gonna Shine Anymore (Bell 45,263, 1972)
14. Staccatos - We Go Together Well (Capitol P 2260, 1968)
15. David Kershenbaum - White Velvet Cat (Capitol P 2191, 1968)

8/24/2015 update:
Apologies for any problems caused by MediaFire - I will try using Zippyshare from now on and see if that is any better. Here is the new Zippyshare link.

Uncharted Waters Volume 17

Yes, this one took a month to make. But I promise you will like it. If you've been turned off by some of the later '70s stuff I've been including lately, fear not - this edition has quite a bit of classic '60s psych-pop.  One other reason you may love this particular issue is that the bitrate for each song is now in better quality. I had had enough of the compromise in quality caused by exporting MP3s to 128kbps, so I bumped it up to 192kbps. Still not exactly FLAC quality, but the tracks do sound noticeable better now.

I've noticed that the past few volumes have been getting lower view counts. Hopefully it is because folks are out and about (and record digging!) during the summer, rather than browsing while cooped up in the house for the wintertime. Thanks again to all the loyal supporters, I appreciate your business!

1. The Shanes - Chris Craft No. 9 (Capitol P 5963, 1967)
2. People Tree - In My Tree (Avco Embassy AVE-4506, 1969)
3. The Uniques - It's All Over Now (Paula 299, 1968)
4. The Weathermen - It's The Same Old Song (United Artists SUA 50768, 1971)
5. New World - Lay Me Down (RAK ZS7 4505, 1971)
6. The Golden Horizon - Love Is The Only Answer (Fontana F-1666, 1969)
7. Jim Dawson - Man In Question (Kama Sutra KA 530, 1971)
8. Carnival Connection - Poster Man (Capitol P 2244, 1968)
9. Wild Butter - Roxanna (Thank You For Getting Me High) (United Artists UA 50688, 1970)
10. The Parade - She Sleeps Alone (A&M 950, 1968)
11. The Peppermint Trolley Company - Spinnin' Whirlin' 'Round (Acta 45-835, 1969)
12. The Sunflower Singers - Strangers (ABC 45-11010, 1967)
13. Ashley Brothers - The Sidewalk Sleeps (Capitol P 2366, 1968)
14. Hot Ice - You Are My Sunshine (Polydor PD 14101, 1971)
15. Owen B. - Zig Zag Man (Janus J-123, 1970)

(As of 9 PM, June 25, the Hot Ice track has been replaced with a re-recorded version without a skip in it. Please re-download the file if you downloaded it earlier today.)

Uncharted Waters Volume 14

Sorry for the short hiatus - things have been busy and not in a good way.  Unfortunately, I wasn't able to attend the local record fair this time around, so I don't have a shiny new stack of psych-pop 45s to transfer - but I do have a few from a local record store visit.  Enjoy these few in the meantime.

1. Bobby Meyers - Blue Horizon (Chips P-2958, 1970)
